Based on Tim Wendel's acclaimed book "Summer of '68: The Season That Changed Baseball, and America, Forever"

This powerful documentary will take you back to a time of unprecedented change and turmoil in America. The year 1968 was marked by social and political upheaval. But amidst the chaos, a glimmer of hope emerged from the baseball diamond in the form of two legendary teams, the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cardinals, led by Bob Gibson and Lou Brock, were on the brink of becoming a dynasty. In comparison, the Tigers led by Al Kaline and Denny McLain were trying to pull their city from the ashes. The summer before, Detroit had seen the worst riots in our country since the Civil War.

At a time when our nation is still sharply divided about race, inequality and protest, “Summer of ‘68” will have a modern sensibility and use lessons learned that can help heal our country once again. How two teams and their cities used the game of baseball to unite and inspire a nation during a tumultuous time.

As America continues to search for hope and unity, the resiliency shown by both teams during that magical baseball season still resonate. The film will celebrate the enduring magic of America’s pastime and its ability to bring people together and like “Field of Dreams” will inspire and uplift audiences of every age. In doing so, it may help heal our country once again.

As always, Tim Wendel gets to the heart of this game - Ken Burns
